Join us for the Opening Reception of our two new exhibitions Super/Natural Creatures and Becoming Super/Natural!
Super/Natural Creatures features the work of James Kwaksistala, Charles Jules, and Alexander J. Mark who are based in Campbell River, alongside special guest artist Thomas Whiteley. This exhibition brings together rich storytelling traditions, ancestral designs, and contemporary printmaking and is the culmination of a three-year journey rooted in relationship building, mentorship, and deep mutual respect.
Celebrating the collaborative spirit of the Ha̲mdzat̓si Collective, Super/Natural Creatures marks a major milestone. After touring to Trois-Rivières and Toronto, the CRAG is thrilled to present the Collective in their home gallery for the very first time, with the addition of new works and artists, expanding on the original presentation.
Running concurrently in the Satellite Gallery, Becoming Super/Natural showcases artworks made by the participants of the 2026 carving and printmaking workshops led by James Kwaksistala, carver, and Nadine Bariteau, printmaker. For some participants, this was their first opportunity to carve, for others an occasion to reconnect with their traditions. These prints honour transformation, resilience, and the importance of nurturing spaces where creativity can flourish.
