TRAK Outdoors Ltd., a world-class kayak manufacturer, is building a Vancouver Island and Gulf Island hub connecting visitors to nature, the outdoors and the sacred waters of the Salish Sea.

This venture was officially opened on July 28 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held by TRAK, Saysutshun Island Management Group, and the Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce. It celebrated their Nanaimo relocation, expansion into training, camps, tours, and growing indigenous partnerships.

There are plans for the TRAK Retail Experience Centre, part of the Petroglyph Development Group’s redevelopment of Sealand Market located at 1840 Stewart Ave Nanaimo, slated for opening spring 2023. TRAK has been manufacturing portable performance kayaks since 2006 in service of their mission – building kayaks that transform paddling adventures. From the beginning, this venture was launched to provide the most amazing series of adventures possible – for kayak enthusiasts, international retail/ international retail/distribution partners, training and tour partners, and TRAK Pilot Ambassadors from around the world. Moving from Airdrie, AB to Nanaimo in 2021 allowed TRAK to be closer to the water, servicing customers in one of the world’s most renowned kayaking destinations – Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. TRAK purchased Nanaimo company Coastal Expression late 2021, enabling greater access to paddling experiences for people of all skill levels. TRAK and Saysutshun Island Management Group entered a partnership last month to establish an on-Island TRAK Basecamp, allowing paddlers to experience the Marine Provincial Park. Known as Saysutshun by the Snuneymuxw, this family-friendly park is accessible only by foot passenger ferry or boat. With breathtaking views of the coastal mountains and the Harbour City, the island offers a unique natural, historical and cultural experience for visitors. Backed by its growing global brand, TRAK is building a hub in Nanaimo and the Gulf Islands for paddling-focused experiences that enhance vitality, improve wellness and mental health, giving people a deep connection to nature, the outdoors, and specifically the sacred waters of the Salish Sea, and bodies of water the world over.
